MP and network mapped drive

Post by alamata »

hey ,...

i wanted use MP with my network mapped drives,...

if that can help someone,...

first, index network mapped drive as library

""
Add a non-indexed UNC as a library
===========================
1. Create a folder on your hard drive for shares. i.e. c:\share
2. Create another folder in the above share. i.e. c:\share\music
2. Link the Library to this folder.
3. Delete the folder.
4. Use the mklink in an elevated command prompt to make a symbolic link. Name the link the same as the folder you created above.
i.e - mklink /d c:\share\music \\server\music
5. Done. Now you have non-indexed UNC path as a library.

secondo, scan your computer with MP

I never thought that people could actually want to scan their network drives.
It's just that my experience with network drives let me decide that it was better to discard them from the scanning process because of the network slowliness or out of respect for the actual owners of the network drives (it's kinda like a silent consensus that you shouldn't abuse by accessing them too often: when 3 or more people read media files directly on the same shared drive, it can become so slow that media playing becomes choppy for everyone...).

But there are probably situations when this is not an issue, and I'll try to add an option to add network drives to the scanning process for the next version.
