Can you tell me which versions of macOS, Negatron and MAME you're using? Is it vanilla MAME or another distribution like NegaMAME or WolfMAME?

Standard SDLMAME.

Catalina 10.15.7

I'll try NegaMAME and see how I get on.

Same problem with NegMAME.

Both work fine after a reboot, but generally not if the app is restarted.

Gone back with Monterey and the program still hangs while initialising.
